Seven of the world's leading ICT companies have substantial operations in Ireland. The world's leading information security companies are among them including Symantec, McAfee and Trend Micro. Microsoft and many other software companies also have threat research or security operation centers in Ireland.

Ireland’s strong international financial services sector, and more recently social media sector, are also drivers for the development and implementation of new security solutions. Home to many multinational companies, Ireland has also developed an enviable knowledge of multi-jurisdictional laws concerning data and privacy.
